I think that I was misunderstood. I simply said that many women have these things underway during their 20’s and 30’s and that when they reach their 40’s, many are starting to enjoy taking care of themselves and enjoying their singledom! I didn’t mean that every woman is a college graduate.

I am in my mid 40s and have been dating for about 6.5 years. Based on my dating experience, there is a large population of single/divorced women with children in the later years of high school or out of school. Most of these women I have met did not go to college after high school. My experience is also very representative of Tina B’s comments. Women in their 40s who went to college after high school (instead of marrying) still have younger children.

In fact, I am a single Father with younger children (ages 12 and 9) and I find that “matching child raising philosophies” is the most difficult part of establishing a long-term relationship. The two of you can be very compatible and attracted to each other; however, if you have different approaches to raising children it is a deal breaker.

Thanks for the insight. I do know many women however that are in their mid forties that have children out of the house or in college. You are right that women with children have a much more difficult time balancing a personal life with work and responsibilities at home.

I have to disagree with much of your assessment of dating over 40. It sounds more appropriate for someone in their mid fifties. Most women with a college degree or higher don’t have their first child until age 29, so they’re often dealing with children that are in elementary school and middle school, when they’re in their 40’s. That is a big part of the complication since kids are a major consideration when a woman is trying to find time to date.
